U-Picks and Berry Picking

You may not have time to dedicate to a garden in your own backyard, but that doesn’t mean you can’t reap the benefits and take part in the most delightful part of gardening – picking the fresh, ripe fruits and vegetables. Eastern Manitoba’s u-picks make a great date activity for you and your love. Or take full advantage of the Sandilands Forest and Blueberry Rock Trail for an exciting hiking experience mix with juicy berries.

This adventure is perfect for two: experience fresh air, mouth-watering berries, and each other’s simple company. U-picks, offer the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors, exercise while you pick and is a fantastic opportunity to talk to the growers one-on-one to learn cool tidbits of the process of farming. Don’t be shy! They want to talk to you and share their love of their craft.

If you are looking for a foraging adventure, then it’s time to hit the trails. Blueberry Rock (picking time August) and Sandilands Provincial Forest (picking time July) are well known to the locals – and the black bears – for large quantities of plump juicy blueberries! Keep in mind while picking wild berries to consult with those who know about foraging and, when in doubt, don’t pick it. You can even learn the skill of foraging from Prairie Shore Botanicals through classes and workshops.

Whether you’re heading to a farm or out in the country, there is nothing more satisfying than picking fresh berries with your own two hands. This memorable adventure is one that you and your partner will fall in love with and want to repeat again and again!
