St. Pierre Jolys

Location: 57.5 km from Downtown Winnipeg.

Along the banks of the Rat River is the Francophone Village of St. Pierre Jolys. This picturesque village amazes everyone who visits with their welcoming residents, unique charm, and the various things to do.

Head on down to J’em Bistro to enjoy made from scratch (and with love) goodies and drinks. Pick up your beverages and food from this cozy gem and be prepared to be ‘wowed.’ Enjoy tasty sandwiches like chicken salad, egg salad, ham and cheddar, and BLT wraps.

While you are more than welcomed to order the usual coffee, tea, juice, milk, or pop, we suggest trying the Gourmet Iced Coffee or the Bistro Lemonade.

The perfect picnic destination is Parc Carillon. Featuring Walking paths, a pedestrian bridge with engraved plants, and accesses the Crow Wing Trail.

RM of Whitemouth

Location: 99 km from Downtown Winnipeg.

Location: 34.5 km from Downtown Winnipeg.

The RM of Ritchot is a buzzing destination with tremendous communities that offer amazing experiences, fun adventures, and has diverse activities.

Located: 42 km south of downtown Winnipeg

For your picnic adventure, head on over to Bistro 290. This cozy, country bistro offers scrumptious soups, sandwiches, wraps, and more with their changing menu. Their Reuben is paired with hot pastrami cheese and sauerkraut on toasted bread. Or you can’t go wrong with their Spicy Chicken Wrap with chopped chicken breast tossed in buffalo sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onion, Dijon mustard, all wrapped in a toasted tortilla wrap.

Under their Grazers menu, you can go with Pulled Pork Sliders – three mini buns filled with pulled pork, BBQ Sauce and Coleslaw. Or go with the rolls! With Crispy Potato Roll (served with your choice of dipping sauce) or Chicken Spring Rolls served with Sweet Chili Sauce.

Are you jonesing for some coffee? Negash Coffee is just the place to go. With a passion for providing their customers with rich, flavorful coffee that will have you wanting every last drop. They exert the utmost care every step of the way. From the coffee fields of Ethiopia to your mouth, their beans taste just as exotic as their origins.

Yirgacheffe coffee originates in Ethiopia’s southern region of Sidamo, which is believed to be the birthplace of coffee. You can now enjoy the experience of these widely unknown beans right at home or not far from it.

Don’t forget about dessert! At Country Snacks, you can indulge in Manitoba’s best self-serve soft ice cream and twister treats. With their twists, you pick the candy, and they’ll twist it up for you. Or, if you’re feeling like having breakfast for dessert, visit Rosa’s Homemade (located in Country Snacks), where you can enjoy homemade waffles any time of the day.

After gathering all these delicious foods and drinks, you’ll need a pic destination. Hespeler Park is the perfect place. The largest park in Niverville at 91 acres, it includes over ten soccer pitches, five baseball diamonds, a splash pad, bike skills track, beach volleyball court, a large covered picnic shelter, outdoor exercise equipment, man-made and natural play structures, and a brand-new playground that represents Niverville’s rich history.

The park is also situated on a Crowing Wing Trail section (connecting Winnipeg to Emerson). It guides you through the wetlands pavilion area that was transformed from the Town’s old lagoon to the beautiful wetlands, using a process called bioremediation.

Grand Marais

Location: 100 km from Downtown Winnipeg.

Venture to Grand Marais to find your little piece of paradise! This funky beach town offers visitors plenty to do, but who can say no to a day at the beach? From roaming the shops, checking out the restaurants and bars, to simply watching the sunset, you can have the perfect mix of adventure and relaxing.

Their Quesadillas, cheese, or loaded options are served with salsa and sour cream and sure to hit the spot. Get a mouth full of pure heaven with their Nacho Grande, which has fried taco chips seasoned with your choice of beef or chicken, blended cheese, peppers, onions, and tomato.

Top off your meal with hard or soft ice cream and other tasty goodies from Lanky’s Restaurant!

Set up your picnic at the East Beaches Heritage Wing. Outside of the building are picnic tables, and the grounds are gorgeous. After, enter the building to explore this interactive interpretive centre that is now home to artifacts, displays, and stories.

RM of Hanover

Location: 70 km from Downtown Winnipeg.

In the Rural Municipality of Hanover are incredible experiences waiting for you. Whether you want to be in nature, be transported back in time, indulge in high-quality cheese, and much more, you can find your next adventure here.

At the Patio Grill, you can grab all your picnic goodies. While you wait for your food, enjoy the family environment and helpful staff.

Feel like having some appetizers? You have your choice of battered mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, cauliflower bits, and more.

Go all out and order those poutines? Try their Patio Poutine, Perogy Poutine, or the Menno Poutine that’s made with curly fries, farmer sausage, bacon, onion, and cream gravy.

For full meals, you can’t go wrong with their Perogies and Farmer Sausage, Chicken Dinner, or their Fish and Chips.

You can even grab your treat here. Their dessert options change, but the flavour is always incredible, from Ice creams, cheesecakes, cinnamon buns, pies, and many more.

RM of Springfield

Location: 29 km from Downtown Winnipeg.

The RM of Springfield is where you can find whatever adventure you’re craving. In their communities, you will find hours, and even days, worth of entertainment and activities.

Start your picnic off with a visit to Pineridge Hollow – where you can Taste the prairies. Supporting local growers and producers, you’ll find that their menu features the talents of their neighbouring farmers and ranchers. With these home-grown ingredients, you can taste the incredible flavours of wholesome, delicious, and comforting food.

Feel like sharing? These dishes are perfect for two! Their Rosemary and sea salt Beet Chips served with house-made goat cheese and ranch dipping sauce is out of this world!

Or try their Borderland Agriculture Bison Burgers topped with herb goat cheese, candied jalapeno, cucumber ribbons, and fresh Shallots. No judgement here if you want to eat it all by yourself.

Their Pickerel Burger is grilled with a lemon sauce, cucumber ribbons, pickled onions, fresh arugula and crispy capers, and house-cut fries. And a huge plus is that it is gluten-free!

Their Nashville fried Chicken is another great choice. A pickle and buttermilk brined bone-in fried chicken tossed in haskap honey, topped with mustard slaw and house pickles and served with house-cut fries.

Ready for dessert? Head over to The Peppercorn Restaurant for various baked goods, but their signature treats, cheesecake and Tower of Cinn, are an absolute must! Their cheesecake is a New York-style cheesecake that is slow-baked in their oven for five hours and available in various flavours. Ask your server for Today’s Selection to indulge in this mouthwatering treat.

Their Tower of Cinn is their house specialty. This melt-in-your-mouth golden fried cinnamon bun is drizzled with caramel and whipped cream.

Once you’ve picked up your food, head over to Birds Hill Provincial Park, where you can use picnic tables or bring a blanket and set up on the grass, after you are done, you can enjoy the Park’s many activities.

West Hawk Lake

Location: 157 km from Downtown Winnipeg.

Situated in Whiteshell Provincial Park is beautiful West Hawk Lake. Known for its incredible trails, tranquil crystal-clear waters, and the soothing environment that surrounds the wilderness. Fun fact time! Did you know that West Hawk Lake was formed by a meteor and reaches 111 meters (364 feet) and is the deepest lake in Manitoba?

The Hi-Point Restaurant offers customers delicious food and a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel like part of the family.

One of the local favourites is the Spicy Local. This burger is made up of 5 oz. homemade patty, topped with grilled jalapenos, cheddar cheese, mustard, mayo, lettuce, and onions. And, when requested, you can have this yummy dish gluten-free.

Or enjoy one of their wraps, sandwiches, fish, chicken, and more from their large menu.

Nite Hawk Café has been running for 50 years and three generations. You can enjoy a variety of things during your visit, but for your picnic adventure, you’ll want to pick up all your tasty dessert goodies.

Location: 115 km from Downtown Winnipeg.

Pinawa is a beautiful resort-like community nestled along the Winnipeg River on the Whiteshell Provincial Park’s northern edge. A recreational paradise, where the white-tailed deer roam the streets, and the local residents are ready to greet you with a smile and treat you like part of the family. Pinawa provides so many wonderful outdoor recreational experiences to choose from.

At On the Water Eats, you can delight your taste buds with this family-owned and operated restaurant’s dishes. Known for their mouthwatering burgers, you have a diverse selection made up of sandwiches, hotdogs, and burgers. The fam-favourites hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, chicken burger, and veggie (vegan, to be precise) burger can be found on their menu.

Head over to the Pinawa Heritage Sundial to enjoy your tasty meal and delightful treats. The Pinawa Heritage Sundial is a horizontal dial stretching 10 metres square, with a gnomon 5 metres high. It is designed specifically for the site’s latitude and longitude, incorporating 12 heritage icons depicting the Eastman region, themes of the First Peoples, La Vérendrye, the fur trade, and hydroelectric power development, industry, research, as well as others. The structure teaches visitors how one of the world’s oldest timepieces is used to tell time.

RM of Emerson-Franklin

Location: 90 km from Downtown Winnipeg.
